I'm tired. Between the kids, the house, my husband, the pets, and actually spending some time on myself gaming it up on Skyrim, I think I've been averaging about 5 hours of sleep a night. NOT an optimum amount of sleep to go off of by any means, but I've been doing it. Why? Because I think that it's important that every parent take a little bit of time for themselves out of their busy lives. My grandfather used to tell me that when you become a mother, *ahem*, parent that your life is over, it's all about the kids. Which I loudly proclaim is bullshit. No matter how much you love your children you have to take some time for yourself, if only for you sanity. So ends my bitchy personal rant for the day.

On other news, I got most of my children's Christmas presents in the mail today, thank goodness. Not to sound like a total not-thankful-for-living-overseas bitch, but its a pain in the ass to not be able to go down to your local Walmart or ToyRUs or wherever it is you prefer to shop and pick up Christmas presents. Yes, its awesome living overseas. No, it is not awesome when you have to spend $170 on shipping through Amazon to ship each package as it becomes available just so they will make it here on time. I try to support the local economy here in Germany by buying on the economy as much as I can, but you just can't get things like Walkie Talkies and remote controlled cars here without driving 3+ hours to a big city like Berlin for such cool stuff. I love Germany, but sometimes I really miss the convenience of the states. Which ironically, is part of the reason we were so broke in the states.

However, on a good note, my husband came home from the shop at 5 pm today. Which is faaaar and away a major improvement from what time he normally gets home, that being between 6 -6:30. However, because his unit is organized fucking chaos incarnate, I know this will only last for the holiday season. Whatever. I'm pure happiness. Even if he did take the video games away from me when he came home =)

I really should be sleeping right now, but . . .

Part of the reason I started this blog, is because the Army does a lot of stupid shit to military families. I was thinking back to all of the things I've had to deal with when it came to being a military wife since I was introduced to the Army in 2004, and it almost blows my mind. A good friend of mine says that she sees it as one of my biggest strengths, that I can take the stuff the Army throws at me and just roll with it. Like the time my husband was gone during a month long field problem in August, and we were supposed to go back to the states in September to get my oldest daughter from my ex. My husband calls and tells me that they're going to let him come home two weeks early, because they were sending him back out to the field for a month in September. So I was going to have to take my 3 year old and fly Space A to the states by myself to get my daughter. Needless to say I lost it for a little bit. But after about 20 minutes I sobered up, squared my shoulders and just said "Well, it sucks, but it's what I'm going to have to do."

Luckily in a bid to keep me from going completely bat shit insane my loving husband got his command to let him go to the field in October instead of September, even though my birthday/our 3 yr anniversary was in October. Just so I wouldn't have to go Space A to the states by myself with a 3 yr old in tow without him. Except that his command wouldn't let him leave, even if he wasn't in the field. So the only reason he traded September for October ended up being so he could keep our 3 yr old while I went to the states on a expensive as fuck commercial flight.

See? That's the kind of shit a Army wife, any kind of military wife has to put up with on a daily basis. The military branch your husband works for getting their jollies off by fucking up your plans. It sucks. And so circling back to my original point, it almost blows my mind what I've put up with. What any military wife puts up with.

I'm proud to say that because of the things military wives put up with on a daily basis, Superman, Wolverine, or Spider-Man are NOT my heroes.

Military wives are. =)

Don't you just hate the first blog post? No? . . . Dammit . . .

Wilkommen! As part of the rite of passage, every new blog has to have it's first post. Most of the time it's awkward to write, awkward to read, and just plain not very good - the writer of the blog not being very well versed in how to open up a blog without saying, "Um, well, yeah . . . welcome to my blog! This blah, blah, blah is what its all about." I am not the exception. I find first blog posts just as awkward as the next aspiring shmuck. So . . . welcome to the entirely-not-yet-amazing-but-will-be-soon blog According To An Army Wife. =)

A little bit about me. I'm female (I hope this is obvious) and an Army Wife. I've decided to start a blog, because well, dealing with being a military wife can be frustrating, and dealing with the Army in particular is even worse. Which is a nice way of saying that the Army can do some pretty stupid shit sometimes that fucks up our lives. To make matters even more interesting, my husband, I and our family have the awesome experience of being stationed overseas in Germany. While this is an amazing once in a lifetime experience we get to have at cost to the Army, it can also suck huge donkey dick. I wanted a personal forum where I could bitch anonymously about military life, about being overseas, and dealing with the Army, among other things, while sharing it with the world and without fearing reprisals from my family or friends who are tired of hearing my bitching. Hence - lightbulb! - I'll start a blog! Which sadly when I think about it, is about like 1/4 of the rest of the people on this planet.

Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with this blog. I've started my fair share of crash and burn blogs in my adult lifetime (3-5 I believe) that I started with the sincerest attempt to write on and make popular, but for some strange reason life kept poking its fucking head in, waving its nasty little finger and saying "uh uh, you've got other shit to take care of". Have you ever had that happen to you?

So here's to hoping that I can keep writing. Here's to hoping that I can provide everybody who reads this blog with a good laugh as I bitch about stupid shit the Army does. Here's to hoping this makes me a better writer. Hell, at this point here's to hoping that I can get somebody to read this blog . . .
